Welcome Family!
Hello everyone and welcome to our own family blog. The goal of this is to keep each other informed on what God is doing in our lives and to keep in touch with one another. We have attempted this in the pass and we hope this time it will remain a vital means of keeping our family close.
The rejuvenating of our family newsletter has been a direct result of a vision that Rodtrice had, in which we could get info out to our families both in the north and south. Her ideas stemmed from the newsletter that Sylvia(Auntie Syl) sent out years ago that included information such as birthdays, holidays, and family reunion. This blog attempts to do the same thing, and it allows us to be more flexible with what we can do.
What's great about a blog is the fact that you can do everything from adding pictures and video to adding content FREE OF CHARGE! You also have the ability to respond right away by commenting on post. Feel free to familiarize yourself with it and play around with some of the features, and if you have knowledge of editing or graphic design, don't hesitate to add stuff.
So to how we got the name
Rodtrice Matthews (aka Trice) has asked that all of the younger generations to spearhead this project. We all were given special task to make this newsletter successful. Trice gave me the honor of naming it and this is what I came up with.
I believed that every aspect of our newspaper should have a special meaning to it, because we are a special family. So since we are all descendants of Theodore and Everlean, the Hairston part was an easy decision. But I also wanted to emphasize our African American side, so I looked up words in Swahili that might put in words the type of family that we are.
So I came across the word Pendana which means "love one another." It is usually used in a phrase which says "the journey made them love one another."
I felt that this was an accurate phrase to describe our family. Our journey includes seeing loved one die, to seeing some go to jail, but through it all we are held together with our love for one another.
So have fun and God Bless!
